First Generator Set Co-produced by SUMEC and Rolls-Royce MTU China Rolled off Production Line

On November 13, Mr. Tobias Ostermaier, Global Vice President of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, led a team to visit Jiangsu SUMEC Group Corporation. Together with Peng Yuanpu, SUMEC Deputy General Manager and Chairman of the Board of SUMEC Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd., he unveiled the diesel unit which used the engines produced by the joint venture factory between Rolls-Royce MTU China and a Chinese company for the first time.

Over time, the FIRMAN brand of SUMEC Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd. has responded quickly to the changes in the market as well as the demand of clients and expanded its business from gasoline generator sets to large diesel generator sets: in the past two years, it has won the bids of Dakar’s national stadium in Africa, the power station in Jamaica, South America, the communication base station in Northeast China, the island reef in the South China Sea and other projects at home and abroad, providing a package of solutions concerning electric power for clients around the world. Among them, the cooperative projects with MTU in the field of commercial diesel generator sets are increasing. In 2018, the number of MTU engines purchased by SUMEC Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd. has achieved a substantial growth on the basis of the original cooperation.

During the meeting, Mr. Tobias Ostermaier said that the MTU team in China would continue to work hard to support the development of the FIRMAN diesel generator set business with better products, technologies and services. Deputy General Manager Peng Yuanpu briefly reviewed the history of cooperation between the two parties and said that SUMEC would strive to grasp the cooperation opportunities with Rolls-Royce and deepen the lean manufacturing of electromechanical equipment backed by the new manufacturing base to further expand the diesel power business.

Later, General Manager Peng Yuanpu and Mr. Tobias Ostermaier together unveiled the diesel unit which used the 4000 series engines produced by the joint venture factory between Rolls-Royce MTU China and a Chinese company for the first time.
